Three benefits of a mobile time and attendance app
Time and attendance might be the most used HRMS function, if only because everybody punches in and out at least once a day. But the modern HRMS offers much more than a punch clock. Most time and attendance modules will enable managers to set schedules, track hours worked, manage time off, and feed all the relevant data direct to the payroll module each month. And with the rising impact of mobile and contingent workers, having a mobile system that can be accessed anywhere certain benefits.
1. Flexible management
Given the significant variations in employee terms and conditions, contracted hours, and rates of pay in even a small workforce, software can be a real boon to manage the complexity. Workers in the field can punch in wherever they may be, and supervisors out of the office can monitor employee locations and carry out scheduling from a distance. Whether it’s tracking the working pattern of a mobile employee, or management of the same at a distance by a mobile supervisor, regardless of who is ‘on the road’ or out of the office, a mobile app can make it as easy to manage time and attendance as the days when everyone would be working on the same premises.
2. Employee self-service
For the off-premises employee, a mobile app means they can view their timesheet and schedule from anywhere in the world. They can check their balance of hours worked, their remaining paid time off entitlement or level of sick absence taken to date. A mobile app gives the workforce the information they want, when they want it, and wherever they want it. And while it’s not exactly an employee self-service feature, geolocation capability not only enables a manager to monitor the employee, it also offers the employee a degree of security and traceability should anything unfortunate or unforeseen occur.
An HRMS mobile app means that time and attendance information is more likely to be entered in a timely fashion, and be more accurate. Differing hours and rates of pay present no problems, and this in turn leads to fewer errors due to automatic calculation of payroll and overtime payments. We all know that there are few circumstances more guaranteed to cause employee wrath than mistakes in compensation. Therefore, through greater accuracy and removing as much human error as possible, a time and attendance mobile app contributes to employee satisfaction.
In a world where even a small organization might have employees scattered across the country, or even globe, working from offices, coffee shops, trains or automobiles, a mobile time and attendance app that allows the employee (and his or her manager) to carry the system with them wherever they go is just good sense.
