4 HR functions that work better on mobile

Updated:

Many HR functions can be performed through both your core HRMS and its companion app(s). While some transactions work well on either, some functionality is a natural fit for mobile. Read on to learn about the areas in which mobile HRMS can really shine:

1) Timekeeping

Timekeeping and time approvals are daily, operational tasks in which minutes can add up. While manufacturing facilities may have cards for clocking in and out, remote workers or those travelling to customer sites may also need to clock in and out.

For these employees, it can be a chore to write down and then correctly enter the time worked after the fact. With mobile technology, mistakes and forgotten entries are a thing of the past because time in/out can be reviewed in real-time.

2) Vacation/time off approval and planning

Tracking vacation and time off can also benefit from having a mobile close at hand. When an employee has to take an emergency day off, they can often forget to track the time upon returning to the office.

When time off is tracked via mobile, however, it’s easier to note the event immediately rather than waiting to be in front of a computer. In addition, the convenience of mobile can help employees as they plan vacations at home by allowing them to check the team schedule for times that they can take off.

3) Viewing payroll details

Payroll information is often very detailed, and understanding a payslip can require some studying. Putting this data into a simple HRMS app can make the data more readily understood if the app is well-designed.

In addition, allowing mobile access can help make the data more approachable, similar to banking mobile apps that employees use every day in their personal lives.

4) Updating beneficiaries and emergency contacts

These pieces of data are usually collected upon hire, and they are rarely updated, meaning that sometimes, incorrect data is used when it is actually needed. Often it’s laziness; an employee doesn’t have the details available at the office to fill out the required fields.

Mobile makes this process easier by allowing an employee to simply connect to the HRMS and fill out the details when they are at home or even when they are with their beneficiary or contact person.
