Sage HCM (formerly Criterion HCM)

Sage HCM (formerly Criterion HCM) is a modular human capital management (HCM) platform designed to support core HR, payroll, and workforce management processes within a configurable framework. It includes HR administration, payroll, performance management, employee retention, compliance, and time and attendance tools.

The platform provides employee and manager self-service capabilities, letting users access and update their personal data through configurable dashboards in real-time. It also streamlines routine processes like leave requests, benefits enrolment, and approvals. Mobile access is supported as well, which includes time and attendance functionality via the dedicated app.

Sage HCM's reporting and analytics allow users to generate customised reports across HR and payroll data. Prebuilt report templates are available, including those for performance management, with competency-based evaluation frameworks that support structured employee reviews.

Security and hosting are delivered through enterprise-grade infrastructure, historically aligned with SSAE 16 Type II standards, with high availability and uptime benchmarks. Organisations should confirm current certifications and deployment models (cloud or hosted) based on their specific requirements.

Acquisition

Since its acquisition by Sage in October 2025, Criterion HCM has rebranded to Sage HCM. The platform integrates natively with Sage Intacct and Sage 300 CRE, with ongoing product updates, customer support resources, and training opportunities designed to help customers stay current with new features and best practices.

One such new feature is the built-in AI assistant, ch.ai, which is included across the platform and handles tasks such as writing job descriptions, parsing resumes, generating policies, and flagging compliance risks.
