SumTotal (now under Cornerstone OnDemand)

SumTotal provided an integrated HR software solution through its elixHR system. It served over 3,500 customers and 45 million users worldwide. Alongside the HRMS, SumTotal offered consulting, training, support, and hosting services.

Support for elixHR was available via phone and an eService Incident Management Portal. The company also provided consulting services, including change management, competency modeling, executive coaching, talent development, training, skills and behavioral assessments, and more. Training for elixHR included instructor-led courses, online learning, and virtual classes, which could be expanded with train-the-trainer programs.

Acquisition timeline

• Vista Equity Partners (a talent development and HCM software vendor) acquired SumTotal Systems in July 2009. Vista sought to build a talent management suite and later acquired CyberShift and Accero in 2011 to complement SumTotal's offerings.
• In September 2014, SumTotal was acquired by SkillSoft, a global leader in AI-native skills management. 
• In 2022, Cornerstone OnDemand acquired SumTotal Systems. Skillsoft sought to simplify its portfolio, focusing on its Percipio learning technology and content rather than Learning Management Systems.
